What Is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy is a confidential, one-on-one process where you work through what is on your mind with a registered psychotherapist. Sometimes called individual counselling or talk therapy, it differs from couples or family sessions by focusing entirely on you: your thoughts, feelings, patterns and goals. Together you make sense of what is happening and build practical tools to move forward. Some people come to individual psychotherapy during a difficult season; others simply want space to grow. You do not need a diagnosis or a referral to begin.
What Individual Therapy Can Help With
People come to us for many different reasons. In individual sessions we regularly support anxiety and worry, depression and low mood, stress and burnout, sleep difficulties and insomnia, trauma and PTSD, obsessive thoughts and OCD, ADHD, anger and emotional regulation, grief and loss, self-esteem and confidence, and life transitions or adjustment. Whatever brings you in, your therapist tailors the work to you.

Our Approach & Modalities
There is no single right way to do therapy, so we draw on evidence-based approaches and match them to your needs. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and mindfulness-based techniques. Your therapist will explain what they recommend and why.
Simple, Affordable Pricing
Individual therapy sessions at 101 Psychotherapy start at $100, well below the $150 to $270 that is typical across the GTA. Your first consultation is free, so you can meet a therapist and ask questions before you commit. Sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist are not covered by OHIP, but many extended health benefit plans reimburse them, and we provide receipts you can submit to your insurer.

What to Expect
Getting started is straightforward. First, book your free consultation, a relaxed 30 minutes to see whether we are a good fit. Next, meet your therapist and set goals: share what is going on and what you would like to change. Then begin regular sessions, usually weekly or every other week, in person or online. There is no pressure and no referral needed. You can come exactly as you are.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a therapist cost in Ontario?
Fees vary widely, commonly $150 to $270 per session across the GTA. At 101 Psychotherapy, individual sessions start at $100 and your first consultation is free.
Can I get therapy for free in Ontario?
There are some publicly funded and community programs, though they often have limited spaces and waitlists. At our clinic, your initial consultation is free, and our fees start at $100 to keep ongoing therapy affordable.
What is the difference between a psychotherapist, a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication. A psychologist focuses on assessment, diagnosis and therapy. A Registered Psychotherapist (RP) is trained to provide talk therapy and is regulated by the CRPO. Our team includes Registered Psychotherapists.
Do I need a referral to start individual therapy?
No referral is needed. You can book a free consultation directly with us.
How long will I need therapy?
It depends on your goals. Some people come for a few focused sessions, while others continue longer. You stay in control, and you and your therapist review progress together.
