A Safe Space for Healing, Balance and Growth

Therapist in Milton: Virtual & In-Person Psychotherapy

Milton has close to doubled in size since the early 2000s, which means a great many people here are building a life in a town where their support network is still thin. If you are looking for a therapist in Milton, the people you would work with here hold the protected title of Registered Psychotherapist (RP), regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). Our clients come from right across Halton Region. There are two ways to see us: by secure video anywhere in the province, or in person at our clinic in Vaughan, a straight run east on Highway 401. The methods we use have research behind them, EMDR and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) among them, along with emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and the team is multilingual, with Russian-speaking and Farsi-speaking (Persian) psychotherapists among us.
  • Therapy with an evidence base behind it: CBT, EFT and EMDR
  • The work follows your goals, not a standard programme
  • Online anywhere in Ontario, or in person 36 minutes east in Vaughan
  • Starting at $100 per session
  • 36 minutes from downtown Milton
  • Psychotherapists registered with CRPO and OAMHP
  • Free initial assessment

I am extremely grateful for the support my Mom received through psychotherapy and counselling service at 101 Psychotherapy & Counselling Vaughan. Her therapist was attentive, empathetic, and genuinely invested in helping her work through the experienced challenges. Each session provided practical tools and new perspectives that helped her to improve her emotional well-being and confidence. The office was welcoming, scheduling was convenient, and the overall experience exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone looking for professional and effective mental health support.

I was pretty nervous about starting therapy, but Tatiana Dvorkina made it feel like just grabbing coffee with a very wise friend. She’s helped me to understand my problem and given useful techniques to manage my daily anxiety. The clinic is professional but still feels cozy and safe. Do recommend!

Your Mental Health Is Our Priority

Psychotherapy and Counselling for Milton and Halton Region

Milton grew faster than anywhere else in Canada through the 2000s, and some of what brings people to therapy here is tied to that: a move away from family and old friends, a mortgage taken on quickly, a commute east that eats the start and the end of every weekday. Plenty of it has nothing to do with the town at all, though. A relationship that has gone quiet, grief that has not settled, worry loud enough to interrupt sleep. Wherever you are, in Old Milton near the Mill Pond, out in Hawthorne Village, in Scott or Beaty, or up in Dempsey and Dorset Park along Steeles Avenue, you can work with a Registered Psychotherapist who wants to understand the shape of your week before suggesting anything.
We should be straightforward about where we are: the clinic is in Vaughan, at Dufferin Street and Steeles Avenue West, and not in Milton. From downtown Milton that is about 36 minutes by car, and because Milton sits directly on Highway 401 the toll-free route runs only two minutes behind the 407. A fair number of people here already drive further than that to work. Others would rather meet by secure video and keep the hour to themselves. Neither choice changes the therapy: structured, evidence-based work drawing on CBT, EFT and EMDR, offered without judgement and without any promise of a quick result. What is on offer is careful, practical work at a pace you set.

Matching matters here. A Milton client is placed with the clinician whose background and style actually fit the problem in front of them, not with whoever happens to have the next open slot.

Making the Trip In: What to Expect

You will not be sitting on a waitlist for months, and a first appointment is usually straightforward to slot into your week. There is free parking directly on site, so the visit does not begin with a hunt for a space, and the rooms themselves are quiet and properly private. You will also see the same psychotherapist every time, which matters more than it might sound: nobody wants to spend the drive home realising they will have to explain the whole background again to somebody new next month.

Online Therapy in Milton and Across Ontario

Secure video sessions are open to anyone in Milton and anywhere else in Ontario. You work with the same registered psychotherapists you would have met at the clinic, at the same fee, and nothing about the confidentiality changes. For some people that fits the week better: shift work, a young family, or a day already spent behind the wheel. For others the point of therapy is leaving the house, sitting in a room and having the hour marked out properly. Both are real options here and neither is the lesser one. Online asks only for a private space and a stable connection, and clients often move between the two formats as circumstances shift.

How to Get to Our Clinic from Milton

Our clinic is at 1520 Steeles Ave W, Unit 101A, Vaughan, ON L4K 3B9, on the northwest corner of Dufferin Street and Steeles Avenue West.
  • By car (fastest): about 36 minutes (50.3 km) from downtown Milton via Highway 407 East. Highway 407 is a toll road.
  • By car (toll-free): about 38 minutes (52.9 km) east on Highway 401 and then north to Steeles. Two minutes more than the toll route and nothing to pay, so this is the one most Milton clients use.
  • By transit: about 2 hours 10 minutes, and it takes three services to do it, for example a Milton Transit bus such as route 27 to the Milton GO station, a GO bus east, then a York Region Transit connection such as 960D or 60A. Routes, schedules and connections change, so check them before you travel. For most people coming from Milton, driving or meeting online will be the more practical option.
  • By bike: about 2 hours 55 minutes (51.9 km), largely along Derry Road West.

What We Help Milton Clients With

These are our main areas of work, and between them they account for most of what Milton clients bring to us, whether that is anxiety therapy, grief counselling, marriage counselling or trouble sleeping. It is not the whole list, so if what you are dealing with is not named here it is still worth asking. Every area below is worked on with methods that have research behind them, either in the Vaughan rooms or by secure video, wherever in Ontario you happen to be:

Anger Management Therapy

Anger is usually the surface of something else, and this work goes after that, giving you a way to catch the build-up early and choose what happens next.

Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety therapy is one of the most common reasons Milton clients contact us, and cognitive behavioural therapy gives constant worry a structure you can work with rather than argue with.

Depression

Low mood tends to shrink a day down to almost nothing, so the work here is about rebuilding it in increments small enough to be manageable.

Panic Disorder

Panic attacks are frightening largely because they feel random, so we start by making sense of the mechanism and then build the skills that reduce both the intensity and the dread of the next one.

Insomnia

Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) targets the habits and the 3 a.m. thinking that keep sleep out of reach, without relying on medication.

OCD

Obsessive thoughts and the rituals that follow them respond well to exposure and response prevention (ERP), which works gradually and hands back the hours those checks and routines quietly consume.

Parent-Child Therapy

Raising children in a town that has grown as quickly as Milton often happens without grandparents or old friends close by, and this work supports the communication between parent and child when that buffer is missing.

Couples Therapy in Milton

Emotion-focused therapy (EFT) sits behind most of our couples work, and it gives two people a way through conflict, eroded trust or slow-growing distance without the conversation collapsing partway.

ADHD

ADHD support here stays practical, building routines and strategies for attention, time and organisation that fit the life you actually have rather than an idealised version of it.

Three Steps to Your First Session

1. The Free Assessment

Describe what has been happening. We listen, ask a few questions and are honest about whether this is the right practice for it. The conversation is not charged for.

2. The Match

You are paired with a psychotherapist whose training, language and approach fit what you have described, rather than with whoever has the earliest availability.

3. The Sessions Begin

Either in the room at Dufferin and Steeles, or by secure video from home in Milton, at a time that works around your week.

Frequently Asked Questions: Therapy for Milton

No. The clinic is in Vaughan, at 1520 Steeles Avenue West on the northwest corner of Dufferin and Steeles, roughly 36 minutes east of downtown Milton. Milton clients see us either in that office, where parking is free and on site, or by secure video from home.
Sessions at 101 Psychotherapy start at $100 and the initial assessment is free, so nothing is spent before you know what the work would actually involve. That sits at the lower end of what is charged around Halton, where published psychotherapy rates commonly run well above it. Whether any of it comes back to you is a question for your own benefits plan. The specific thing to ask your provider is whether a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) is a covered provider under it.
Yes. The psychotherapists you would work with are on the CRPO register, which is public, so you can look someone up before you book anything. CRPO is the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, the body that regulates this profession in the province. Our team also includes specialist clinicians working in other roles, and each person’s exact title is stated on their own profile, so you can always see who you would be sitting with. As for a referral, you do not need one. There is no need to go through a family doctor first, and you can book the free assessment yourself.
The two words overlap a great deal and plenty of practices use them interchangeably. Broadly, counselling tends to be shorter and focused on a particular situation you are working through, while psychotherapy often runs longer and looks at patterns that repeat across different parts of your life. In practice the distinction matters less than the fit between you and the clinician, and the free assessment exists partly to work out which of the two your situation calls for.
Nobody has to earn their way in by being unwell enough. A reasonable prompt is simply that something has stopped being occasional: sleep that has been poor for weeks rather than nights, an argument that keeps arriving in the same shape, a Sunday evening dread that is no longer proportionate to Monday. You do not have to be in crisis to make the call, and if the answer turns out to be that you are managing fine, the assessment has cost you nothing.
