I am extremely grateful for the support my Mom received through psychotherapy and counselling service at 101 Psychotherapy & Counselling Vaughan. Her therapist was attentive, empathetic, and genuinely invested in helping her work through the experienced challenges. Each session provided practical tools and new perspectives that helped her to improve her emotional well-being and confidence. The office was welcoming, scheduling was convenient, and the overall experience exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this practice to anyone looking for professional and effective mental health support.

I was pretty nervous about starting therapy, but Tatiana Dvorkina made it feel like just grabbing coffee with a very wise friend. She’s helped me to understand my problem and given useful techniques to manage my daily anxiety. The clinic is professional but still feels cozy and safe. Do recommend!

Your Mental Health Is Our Priority

Registered Psychotherapists Serving Oakville, From Bronte to Joshua Creek

Oakville grew up around the harbour at the mouth of Sixteen Mile Creek, and each part of town has its own character, from Old Oakville and Bronte by the lake to Glen Abbey and Joshua Creek further inland. The reasons people look for psychotherapy and counselling in Oakville are just as varied: anxiety that builds on the daily commute into Toronto, a marriage that has drifted into silence, grief after losing a parent, a teenager who has stopped talking at dinner, or the slow burnout of a demanding job.
Our clinic sits in Vaughan, beside the Dufferin and Steeles intersection, about 45 minutes away by car outside rush hour. Some clients choose that drive because they value a regular, in-person hour away from home; others prefer video sessions from their own living room. Both lead to the same psychotherapists and the same structured, evidence-based work, usually drawing on CBT, EFT, DBT or ACT, chosen to suit your goals rather than a fixed program.

The Clinicians Oakville Clients Work With

Before your first session, we ask what you want help with, which language you would like to speak and whether you have a preference, such as working with a woman, and then suggest the person who fits best. Our psychotherapists are listed on the public CRPO register, and the team also includes a specialist clinician who leads our neurofeedback and TOVA attention testing; each person’s exact title appears on their profile. Sessions are available in Russian, Farsi, Dari and Tajik.

Affordable Therapy in Oakville: From $120 a Session

Many private therapists in the GTA charge $150 to $270 a session. At 101 Psychotherapy, sessions start at $120 with registered professionals, your first assessment is free, and we provide receipts for insurance. No referral is needed.

Making the Trip to 101 Psychotherapy

There is no long waitlist to get started, and Saturday morning appointments help if weekdays are full. At the clinic you will find free parking right outside, a quiet, private room, and one consistent psychotherapist from your first visit onward, so what you share in week one never has to be retold in week four. From downtown Oakville the drive takes about 45 minutes outside rush hour. The toll-free way follows the QEW, Highway 427, Highway 401 and Highway 400; Highway 407 can be steadier at busy times, but it is a toll road. Booking late morning or early afternoon helps you miss the heaviest traffic.

Online Therapy for Oakville Clients and Anywhere in Ontario

Online therapy follows the same structure as an office visit: a scheduled session with your own psychotherapist, at the same fee, held over secure video instead of across a room. It takes the highway out of the equation, which can matter on a day packed with school runs, a commute into Toronto or a shift that ends late. All you need is a private room, headphones if others are home, and a reliable internet connection. Some people stay with online counselling throughout; others alternate with visits to Vaughan when their schedule allows, and both options carry equal weight here.

Driving and Transit From Oakville to Our Clinic

Our clinic is at 1520 Steeles Ave W, Unit 101A, Vaughan, ON L4K 3B9, at the northwest corner where Dufferin meets Steeles Avenue West.

  • By car (toll-free): about 45 minutes outside rush hour (roughly 50 km) from downtown Oakville. Take Trafalgar Road to the QEW eastbound, then Highway 427 north, Highway 401 east and Highway 400 north to the Steeles Avenue West exit, and continue east along Steeles to Dufferin. In heavy traffic this route can stretch past an hour.
  • By car (tolled): Highway 403 to Highway 407 East is similar in time on a quiet day (about 59 to 61 km) and often more predictable at peak hours, but tolls apply.
  • By transit: honestly, not practical. The trip takes more than two hours and crosses three transit systems, for example Oakville Transit to Oakville GO, the GO Lakeshore West line to Union, TTC Line 1 to Finch and the 960 Steeles West Express to Dufferin. Routes and schedules can change, so check before you travel. If transit is your only option, online sessions may suit you better.

Therapy Services for Oakville: What We Help With

The concerns below are the ones people raise with us most often. Each links to a page with more detail, and every one can be worked on in person in Vaughan or by video.

Individual Therapy

One-to-one sessions offer a private, consistent hour to work through whatever is weighing on you, from a career crossroads to the end of a relationship, toward goals you set together.

Family Therapy

Family therapy brings parents, children and sometimes extended relatives into one room to untangle recurring conflict and change the way the household talks to each other.

Couples Counselling in Oakville

Emotion-focused therapy (EFT) helps couples see the cycle behind recurring arguments or growing distance and find a safer way back to each other.

Anger Management Therapy

Anger that flares in traffic or at the kitchen table usually follows a pattern, and CBT-based anger management helps you spot the early signs and pick a different response.

Anxiety Therapy in Oakville

Through CBT and gradual exposure, we help you test the predictions anxiety makes, so that meetings, busy places and social plans start to feel manageable again.

Depression Therapy in Oakville

Behavioural activation and CBT break recovery into small, concrete steps for lifting a heavy mood, rebuilding routine and reconnecting with people and activities you have pulled away from.

Trauma Therapy in Oakville

Trauma-focused approaches, including EMDR, help you process painful memories at a pace you control, so that reminders of what happened gradually lose some of their grip on daily life.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT shows you how thoughts, feelings and actions feed one another and gives you exercises to practise between sessions, which is why it underpins so much of our work.

ADHD

Teens and adults with ADHD build realistic systems for planning, time and follow-through that work with how their attention actually functions, not against it.

Frequently Asked Questions: Therapy for Oakville

Our clinic is in Vaughan, at 1520 Steeles Ave W near Dufferin Street, about 45 minutes from downtown Oakville by car outside rush hour (roughly 50 km). You can make that drive for in-person sessions or meet your psychotherapist by secure video, and move between the two whenever you like.

At 101 Psychotherapy, your first assessment is free, and sessions start at $120, below the $150 to $270 that is typical across the GTA. We provide a receipt you can submit to your extended health insurance. Many benefit plans pay for part or all of the cost, so confirm that your plan covers sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist (RP).

Yes, our psychotherapists hold registration with the CRPO (College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario), and you can search any of their names on the College’s public register; every team member’s exact title is shown on their profile. You do not need a doctor’s referral: book your free assessment directly by phone or online.

Sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice, including at our clinic, are not covered by OHIP. Extended health and workplace benefit plans often reimburse some or all of the cost, so your benefits booklet or HR department is the best place to check.

It depends on what you need. Psychologists are a separate regulated profession, overseen by the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario, and can diagnose and carry out formal psychological assessments. Registered Psychotherapists focus on talk therapy for concerns such as anxiety, low mood, relationships and stress. If you mainly want ongoing therapy, an RP is often a good fit.

There is no threshold you have to reach first. People often reach out when worry, sadness, irritability or poor sleep has lasted several weeks, when it starts to affect work, school or relationships, or when ways of coping such as drinking more or avoiding people stop helping. Booking the free assessment lets you talk it over with no commitment and decide together whether starting therapy now makes sense.

Yes. Several of the psychotherapists on our team are women, and you can mention a preference for a female therapist, or for a particular language, when you book. We take it into account when we suggest a match.
